shogun wants chuck to wait for him

Quoteworthy:

“I respect him a lot as a fighter and I think he, besides being a warrior, is top of the category. I’ve been watching him since I started fighting. My fans can be sure I’ll be back at 100 percent. I’d like for him to wait and fight me at the end of the year. If I could choose who I’d fight on my return, it would be him, for sure, and I hope he accepts.”

Maurcio “Shogun” Rua — who is recovering from a bad knee injury that required surgery to repair — wants to next fight former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell. Both 205-pound fighters were supposed to lock horns during the main event at UFC 85: “Bedlam” at the O2 Arena in London, England, on June 7. However, injuries to the fighters forced them both off the card. Liddell will more than likely be able to return to action much sooner than Rua because his injury was the less serious of the two (hamstring). Rua plans to return to training in three weeks.

i was so excited for this fight...

I hope they can lock horns though it would be nice for Rua to win a fight beforehand just to build him up a bit. Loss to Griffin, then injury, then Liddell doesn't quite make sense. But, maybe there are really no other enticing matchups and maybe Dana White's worried Rua will lose again.

Either way, I'd love to see this though Rua didn't look like much against Griffin.

give him houston alexander so he can feel really good and people will think he just beat the best hyped fighter out there and then give him chuck...

As much as I would like to see Rua... I believe in giving fighters a very 'winnable' fight to get them acclimated to being back (after a loss in his debut and first fight in a cage and then injury). I think a fight against an Alexander would be great. A fight he should win easily but still is against a recognizable name.

No offence to Houston but after his last performances...isn't he done being a headliner? Why not give him a good fight but someone who also deserves a shot as a headliner again...Maybe Stephane Bonnar.

i'm pretty sure bonnar will beat houston real good...
