i guess shonie carter was the referee
... i've been trying to see how it was ruled but i can't find anything yet. its not on the legends of fighting website yet.
i saw a thread on 5 ozs of pain where someone there said the announcer called it as a draw ... once legends updates their website i'll post the final ruling, if it isnt up here yet
He brings up some good points. For example if this had been in the UFC he says they would have gotten FoN and KOoN, life-changing type bonuses... Too bad it happened in a small show...
WWE or MMA? I don't know these guys names so I will call them Kimbo and Bo.
It looks like Kimbo was hit with a right.....but was Bo touched with the left?

eers, your quote about wrestling and golf isn't true. you should change it to "wrestle for 3 minutes then golf for 2 hours and see which one is harder"

Good point I can see calling golf a sport at the amature level, its kind of fun I have to admit. But when you get to the PGA level is it still a sport? competative eaters have to train harder. They don't have someone else carry their hotdogs around for them. And their clothes aren't gay.

Golf is a skill, not a sport. I feel similarly about baseball. Sure you run a little in a baseball but for the most part hitting is a repetitive act and you are standing still most of the time.
Not to say I don't respect the mastery of either skill -- I've played golf and I suck for the most part -- but I have no doubt with repetition I could get good at it.
Bowling is also not a sport. Again, it's a skill.
Nascar -- debatable...
For me the true sports are MMA, basketball, footbally/rugby, and tennis where your opponent is actively forcing you to physically move as you are competing...It's my definition but I like it...
sports to me are competitive (primarily) physical activities that require interaction with an opponent.
running an obstacle course is a competition but not necessarily a sport, unless you are simulatneously interacting with your opponent. i think a lot of races fall outside of what i like to think of as sports because the racers are in their own lanes the entire time and don't really interact with opponents. also, anything that falls purely on judging, i don't care for, in terms of sport.
people say golf is tough because they're in the sweltering heat for hours...but they're allowed to ride around in carts and they have guys carrying their bags for them. i respect golfers but i consider it a leisure sport....kind of like pool, ping pong, and bowling.

I agree with all of that some what as far as baseball hitting the ball (skill) but what if you are good on the mound and you can hit the ball?
As far as driving a car round and round in circles what are you going to debate?
The one sport that predates every thing other than wrestling is more of a "skill" than a sport IMO and that is swimming.

i actually love ping pong and watching ping pong and wish they would play that shiz more on espn 2. it's just one of those things where if someone told me they were a professional athlete and i asked them in what sport, and if they said ping pong i'd probably laugh. it's more of a sport than nascar, i'll tell you that much.
When I think about it, ESPN televises a lot of skills competitions like gymnastics, bowling and billiards but can't seem to include a sport like MMA...
About ping-pong, I'm on the fence with this one. It would appear to qualify as a sport under my definition but I can't bring myself to put it there completely (and I love the game too. As bosco says, when truly played at a competitive level, it is quite rigorous...)
Please don't tell me you count wrestling as a skill? It's true you have to be skilled but in a championship match even at the youth level you have to know your stuff or you will lose on a mess up. it's not like swimming were you doggy paddle till the finish line.

No we was breaking them down as in golf belongs in the yard darts and checkers catagory because it only takes skill to play......but wrestling is a sport.

does it require primarily physical ability? (is there more movement per minute of action per participant than there is idle time? baseball fails here because during a play, i would argue that less than 50% of the active 10-13 men on the field are moving)
does it require reacting to an opponent? (straight line sprinting, whether it be swimming or track & field does not count.... one-upmanship like in pole vault, javelin, and golf does not count)
is victory possible without judges?
if you answer yes to all three, i dub it a sport. if not, i think its an active skill
(by the above criteria, i think horse racing is a sport as is any oval track racing ... car racing, speed skating, marathons ... anything that allows competitors to draft/strategize outside of firmly established lanes ... although the physical ability aspect is questioned when horse racing or car racing are applied)
I'm with you Bosco. And you've outlined why I'm on the fence about Nascar and horse racing. I'm pretty much ready to put ping-pong in the sports category though...
So are elite Ironman (2+ mile swim in rough waters; 100 mile bike ride; 26 mile run in humid weather) competitors not atheltes if the activities that make up that event not "sports?" By the above definitions, dozens, if not hundreds, of Olympic "events" would not be considered "sports." Seems like the definitions/criteria are a bit narrow if sports like gymnastics, T&F, and swimming are discounted. Bottom line is elite athletes in those and other sports excluded here have athleticisim people don't seem to be respecting as "athletic" or "sporting-based." The reaction time and hand-eye coordination in baseball is said by many athletes to be unreal. Many pro athletes, including those who don't play baseball, say one of the hardest athletic things to do successfully in all of sports is hit a curve ball thrown by a pro player. Would we basically discount 90% of all of the Winter Olympics as "sport?" All forms of skiing and speed skating would be gone - those competitors not athletes? Weird.
Academics, no one is denying the athleticism of these skilled competitors. However, they are not participating in sports IMO -- they are participating in skills competitions.
There's something about watching an athlete like a soccer player dribble through fellow human counterparts or a basketball player elevate over fellow human counterparts that can't be duplicated by athletes competing in what are essentially solo endeavors...
The only sports raised that I'd agree are questionable are horse and car racing becuase those athletes (if defined as athletes) rely on an external third party animal/object to do the work. Otherwise, I'd say all these different sports require different athletic/sporting skills, whether they be wrestling, swimming, whatever. The skills are different, but they're all physical, athletic, sports-based, whatever. If not, we can erase Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Jesse Owens, Willie Mays, Jim Thorpe (in some sports), Babe Didrikson, Jackie Robinson, Carl Lewis, Ted Williams, Ty Cobb, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Joe DiMaggio, Mark Spitz, Wilma Rudolph, Edwin Moses, Mickey Mantle, etc. as sports persons. I don't know, it's a matter of opinion. I wouldn't discredit those people and numerous other athletes like them as significant people in sporting history.
Here is what I think should define sports=You should have to sweat at least if you are not in the water or in sub zero temps. And you should not be wearing gay looking clothes and having other people to do your work for you.

Just got a press release from HDNet. Apparently this fight was ruled a "Double TKO."
From the release:
On Friday, May 16, Shaun Parker (3-6-1) and Tyler Bryan (0-0-1) met up in Indianapolis, in a match that ended in the rare official decision of "Double TKO."
From the looks of it, they were both given draws on their records...
Wow - it was so perfectly timed it almost looked staged... but those guys obviously blasted each other!
Wow! How is that scored? No contest? Draw?

Wow. What are the odds of both of them going down at the same time? I don't think I've seen that before...
MMAJunkie.com talked to Shonie Carter:
