Supreme Court Ruling

Supreme Court Ruling

This is WAAAY off topic of MMA, but I thought it interesting knowing that Pramit is so close to the DC area. I am sure you all heard about the Supreme Court ruling on DC's ban of firearms.

I for one am very much in favor of the court's ruling, I think that it is clear that 'people' meant PEOPLE and I do not want to see the government take away my right to own a firearm. I think yesterday was a great day for law abiding citizens who are or want to have the option to be gun-owners like me in the US and didnt recieve nearly the attention that it deserved for the significance of the ruling. This wasn't just about DC, this affects everyone in the US.

I am curious to the reaction of the people in Baltimore to the DC ruling? Also about the other Ticker's opinions... (especially those north of the border!)

What about the fact that they won't kill anyone who rapes a child? This country is screwed up, we are more concerned with handcuffing citizens who follow the law rather than the animals who break it.

Basically they ruled that it was unconstitutional to blanketly prohibit all citizens from possessing firearms in Washington DC. There were some that were trying to argue that the 2nd Amendment was only intended to allow for members of the state organized militias, rather than allowing regular citizens to own them. ("A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.")

Not to any surprise of mine, Washington DC has/had the strictest anti-gun laws in the country, but also shares the title (along with Oakland where there are also very strict gun laws) as having the highest murder rate in the country.

Gun bans and strict laws only affect law-abiding citizens... criminals by definition are BREAKING THE LAWS and don't care if there is a gun ban or not. Just my thouhts...

canada and the uk ban guns all together and they have a very low murder rate....(according to micheal moore)

UK has cameras recording on just about every corner too... good idea?

They also ban fire arms in Mexico too... where does thier murder rate rank?

Israel has one of the lowest murder rates in the world (even when counting all of the murders they suffer from terrorist bombings) and they have the highest per capita gun-owner rate in world...

And I put Michael Moore in the same catagory as Rush Limbaugh when it comes to sourcing information...

when i said according to micheal moore, i knew that wasn't a great source...i'm not good at knowing all that...

Handguns are illegal in Canada. It does seem like a logical thing but there is still ways to get them and do your illegal attictivities as we still have robberies and murders up here. Just doesn't seem like as much as the US does though. Your "Right to Bare Arms" might be a little outdated and should be reconsidered. Kids always find things that they are not supposed to play with. I also like the slogan, guns don't kill people, people kill people...they just forget to add, people kill people WITH GUNS! It sure makes it alot easier to kill someone with gun in your back pocket. Thats just how I grew up for the last 30 or so years so I am used to not seeing everyone walk around with semi automatic weapons in their belts.
