I always knew the NBA was rigged...

I always knew the NBA was rigged...

Ever since Game 6 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals, Lakers vs. Kings, I have refused to watch the NBA because I believed the officials threw that game and the series for the Lakers. Well after years and years, the truth finally comes out:

Not a huge fan of today's NBA. It also doesn't help that the US National Team can't win a tournament anymore, which makes one wonder if the US style of basketball is the best. I personally don't enjoy the predictability of the games -- 3 quarters of okay play followed by a meaningful fourth quarter.

I used to be a huge NBA and NFL fan. I must say, I think I'll take good MMA over both any day now...

The thing I hate most about the NBA is all of the acting that goes on. Guys flop all over the place and pretend like they are injured or that they got fouled when they didnt. They have got to be the biggest whiners and cry babies in all of professional sports. Paul Pierce being carried off of the court one minute because he can't walk only to come running back out on the court the next playing as if he was never injured. The Sonics just left Seattle and I couldn't care less.

Personally I'm pretty annoyed by the Sonics situation, not so much because I'll miss them when they leave--like I said I've had it with the NBA--but because of them heading for greener pastures under Clay Bennet after all the financial obligations they've forced on Seattle taxpayers over the years. It's amazing that what it came down to, really, was that there wasn't enough parking at Key Arena for them to gouge people for that too (an additional $20-$50 per head, like Qwest field). Kind of ridiculous that after all the commitments the city had to make to them that they can just head off for whatever sweetheart deal some new soon-to-be-the-patsy town is offering. If we're going to have to finance stadiums for these a**hole billionaires, shouldn't we at least get to share in the profits as a city and have a guarantee that they'll stay here? And that goes for all sports teams, not just the NBA...

Basketball has been my favorite non-contact sport since I was a kid, and being a Boston fan hasn't been fun my whole life until recently. I actually was a fan of the Sonics when they were in the finals against the Bulls cuz I hated the Bulls, so I feel for Seattle. But hey at least they have 2 other major franchises, my city (Hartford) lost our only one 11 years ago and they've won the Stanley Cup since.

I feel your pain, erict. I've been a Celtic fan since 1984. I'm a pretty big sports fan in general, and this season was the first championship I've been able to celebrate since I was 9 years old, when it didn't matter as much. As I've grown older, I've lived and died with Boston Celtic basketball, New York Islander hockey, Detroit Lion football, Notre Dame Fighting Irish college athletics, and most importantly, Chicago Cub baseball.

As for the NBA, you're always gonna find someone trying to beat the system. We had the Black Sox scandal in baseball all those years ago, and much more recently, the steroid mess. In the NFL, we had the Spygate baloney. When it comes to big business like sports, there is always going to be someone trying to make that extra buck, or win that extra game. Tim Donaghy is just the latest in a long line of people who have gotten caught.

Ya SG I agree on your points there about the Sonics leaving. I guess I am trying to say that I personally wont miss them because I would never bother to go to a game unless I was given tickets.
