REAL Fight Club - Serious
Have any of you guys seen this? Any of you participate??
Wow - just wow. Caution... it is seriously brutal - but not too brutal for ESPN. (NOT MMA)

Apparently these guys did this before the movie ever came out... I wonder how they felt about the move? It's still one of my all-time favorites...
they are doing it all wrong. they're supposed to explode their houses and not talk about fight club. they are supposed to hit rock bottom and let go of everything.
DO NOT TALK ABOUT FIGHT CLUB
and that was stupid...wearing masks and hitting each other with chairs. the rules of fight club is no shoes, no shirts, 2 men at a time. and none of them looked like they were seeing another person named tyler durden...the book came out years before these guys started this in 98. i think the book came out in 93 or 95, so maybe one of them read it and got the idea from there...

Good call on all points Phoenix.
I e-mailed Dr. Kimmel to ask him about this since he is the academic expert brought in to give his opinion. He said that the ESPN analysts assured him it was real, but he also thought the participants may have exaggerated their antics for the camera. I would not be surprised if this whole thing was a facade. The men in the show talk about why they do this, how they're reclaiming their masculinity and hating on Martha Stewart (notably, a post-1998 reference for sure); their verbalized rationale is almost scripted out of an academic textbook on men's studies. I don't know, it just seemed too textbook for me to believe.
Sorry, I still have not learned how to do that quotation thing! But iamphoenix is dead on. Fight Club the book by Chuck Palahniuk was published in 1997. They probably just copied that, and got the ideas from there.
It looked a little staged... until the guy got his face fractured. Those elbows to the kidneys are no joke either. Anyone who has ever taken a good kidney shot will attest to the pain. Anyway, it was certainly entertaining to watch and they didnt seem to hesitate to me like guys do who havn't fought before - who knows.
they all looked foolish to me.

Honestly, I can't believe ESPN aired this crap. The problem with it too is that they had to make the disclaimer that this is NOT MMA. Well, guess what, a lot of people are going to gloss over that.
This isn't a sport. It's just guys beating on each other.
Sometimes, producers completely befuddle me. They waste time and money on stories like this but MMA -- a real sport -- can't see the light of day...
when was the last time espn showed highlights of a UFC event?

I saw this two weeks ago on ESPN, and I think I remember that, when they were going over the weapons they use, cited "dull kitchen knives". I oculdn't believe my ears. And then, you see them bashing each other in the helmet with a keyboard, and think, "really? This is it, huh?" A sad testament, to be sure.
i like that he was trying to derive some metaphoric reason to be using a keyboard to hit his buddy with ... just stick to playing WoW, r-tard
just stick to playing WoW, r-tard
haha
i'm at a keyboard, i don't hate it. i also have a wacom tablet and i don't feel the need to hit anyone with it. these guys never played sports in school, and they have well paying but very boring jobs, one of them read fight club and saw the movie and felt a connection to edward norton....
