Report: Gus Johnson to do play-by-play for EliteXC May 31 CBS debut

Sam Caplan of FiveOuncesofPain.com is reporting that veteran CBS Sports TV announcer Gus Johnson will be doing play-by-play for EliteXC's May 31 CBS event.

This announcement was made at a press conference held by both CBS and EliteXC in Studio City, Calif. earlier today.

Johnson is a familiar name for sports fans who have watched NFL and NCAA college basketball games on CBS over the last decade plus.

Gus Johnson is the man come March Madness and whenever you watch him doing NFL games it always gets interseting for some reason. I'm interested to see how he does with he fight game.

Captain, I agree. I believe I've read before that Johnson was interested in the opportunity and according to the AP link above, he also trains in martial arts so interest plus knowledge would seem to make a nice combination.

It's going to be amazing hearing a mainstream announcer doing an MMA telecast. Another good sign for the sport... I like the move...
