Two More Fighters Clean in Pre-UFC 91 Drug Tests

ufc_91_logo.jpg

From MMAJunkie.com::

UFC 91 competitors Nate Quarry and Demian Maia have passed pre-event drug tests administered by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer today confirmed...

...

Quarry and Maia join UFC 91 main-event fighters Randy Couture and Brock Lesnar, as well as Amir Sadollah, Nick Catone, Jorge Gurgel, Aaron Riley, Mark Bocek and Alvin Robinson on the "clean" list.

...

Earlier this year the NSAC announced it would begin conducting year-round testing. MMA fighters are subject to drug testing at any time -- for just about any reason -- throughout the year as part of the initiative, which was launched to combat steroid and other drug use among combat-sports competitors.

I'm pleased with this initiative. I'm going to have to do some more research on the specifics of the NSAC's year-round testing policy, but my first big question would be, are they just going to do this year-round testing on fighters within the weeks before their fight? If that's the case, I don't think they're going to catch anybody, because from what I understand about most steroids and performance enhancers, the athletes would've already stopped the last cycle this close to a fight.

However, the concept of "year-round" testing does imply otherwise, and NSAC could likely be using this pre-fight work as a jump-off point for a larger, more comprehensive program. At least that's my hope.

I was wondering too what

I was wondering too what ever happened to the "tested at any time for illegal substances" deal. Seems like they never do! How long ago did they start that? About a year now maybe?

And especially w/ all the crazy fighters who think they can get away w/ "enhancers" (and Nick, he has to be listed separately, cuz I just don't see how that helps him out in a fight. LOL!) lately. A person would think they would get on the ball w/ this crap and let them know they are serious, they will get you, and oh, hey.....Maybe you should actually NOT take illegal substances for a switch around.

I am waiting for the "Big One." It's coming. Soon. Someone crazy, crazy huge is going to come up positive. One you would've never EVER thought that he would do it in a million years. I bet THEN they start testing all the time, all levels, all too late and too little.
